The 2015 Scotties Tournament of Hearts will be a great chance for curling fans in Moose Jaw to see some top tier curling.

For 24 young curlers from Moose Jaw and area, they will get a chance to look inside the life of our country’s best curlers after being named SaskEnergy Junior Stars.

“SaskEnergy loves making memories and this is just another opportunity that we can get to get these youth of tomorrow curling today,” said Shannon Doka, community involvement leader with SaskEnergy.

Kaitlyn Corbin and Benjamin Esson from Moose Jaw will among the youth curlers that will get the opportunity to spend time with the teams taking part in the Scotties.

Being named Junior Stars will allow the curlers to march onto the ice with their select team during the pre-game introductions, they will hang out with the team during practice, receive a Junior Stars jacket and will have the chance to tour the TSN production truck.

“It’s going to be a great experience,” said Corbin.  “I get to see some awesome curlers, talk to them and find out what they’re going through.

“It will be nice to ask them a couple questions about how they prepare for games and different things like that.”

The 24 lucky curlers selected to be Junior Stars were invited to the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre on Wednesday morning for a breakfast with former Scotties champion Amber Holland before finding out that they were picked.

“I was pretty excited for this,” said Esson.  “I’ve never been to the Scotties, I’ve only seen it on TV, so I’m pretty excited for that.”

Esson, a grade 9 student at Vanier Collegiate, is looking forward to meeting the curling teams and getting to tour the TSN truck.  He’s been curling for four years and has fallen in love with the sport.

“Seeing it on TV when I was a child, I just always copied what they did on TV and I wanted to be a curler since then, so here I am,” said Esson.

Corbin was excited to find out that she’d be heading to the Scotties as a Junior Star, even though she already had her tickets for the major event.

“I was hoping (that she’d be picked),” said Corbin.  “There’s lots of young curlers in Saskatchewan that would love this opportunity, so I was really glad when I got picked.”
