The battle of ice and fire played out at Caribou Heights on Wednesday night and it was a tight battle. The Heat pulled out a 14-13 win over the Ice in the Moose Jaw Senior Ladies Fastball League.

Second baseman Kristin Gomersall paced the attack for the Heat, going 3-for-5 with a triple, a double and four RBI. She cleared the bases with her triple in the second inning, which made it 6-3 for the Heat after two.

Outfielder Kim Michelson also reached base four times and scored three times out of the lead-off spot in the win, while pitcher Terri Chowdhurry helped out her cause by going 4-for-4 with a double, three RBI and one run scored.

The Ice were right there throughout the game. They trailed 2-0 after the first inning, but answered with three in top of the second, but the Heat answered with four to go back in front.

After falling behind 8-4 after three, the Ice answered with a six-run fifth inning where their first six hitters reached base and came around to score, powered by a two-run double from Cass Bruce.

The Heat chipped away at the lead, scoring one in the fourth, two in the fifth, one in the sixth and then walking off with an RBI-single from Shayla Freeman in the seventh inning.

Bruce was 2-for-4 with a double, three runs scored, two RBI, a walk and a stolen base for the Ice in the loss. Bryn Giddings chipped in by going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

The Moose Jaw Senior Ladies Fastball League will be hosting their annual tournament this weekend with games running on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Caribou Heights.
