The road to provincials starts on Friday for the local high school football teams.

The defending city champion Peacock Tornadoes, Central Cyclones and Vanier Vikings all hit the field for their first practices of the season to end the week.

The Tornadoes will be on the field for practice on the west field at Peacock at 3:30 p.m. with all returning and new players hitting the field for the opening day of camp.

Over at Central, the Cyclones will have two practices for returning and new players on Friday as they have work-outs at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to kick-off their training camp.

While the Vikings will get underway at 5 p.m. with meetings and some on-field work before kicking things into high gear on Saturday at 9 a.m. All returning and new players are welcome to attend.

The teams are preparing for the opening day of the 2017 Moose Jaw High School Football League season, which comes on Sept. 9 when Vanier hosts Estevan followed by Peacock and Central renewing their rivalry at Gutheridge Field.
