The first tee at the Hillcrest Golf Course

The Hillcrest Golf Course will get a chance to shine in its 100th year next year as they have been selected as the host site for the 2013 Saskatchewan Junior Championships.

"It's just kind of a cherry on top of everything," said club pro Trevor McPherson.  "We're looking forward to it, the future of golf is coming and we're celebrating our 100th year, so it's a great conjunction thing to celebrate both.

"We're going to be having some 100th year celebration stuff that year and we're looking at running a big tournament, but to showcase the golf course to the best players in the province for the Juniors is something we're very excited about."

To put on an event like this will require a lot of man power, but McPherson is confident that the club's membership will step up, "We're going to need a bunch of volunteers to do spotting of holes and stuff like that, and then there's some scoring to do, but I'm not to concerned about it, the membership here is very supportive.  I sent an email out and I'm getting responses back already and it's a year away."

McPherson doesn't anticipate to many changes being made to the course to try and challenge the young golfers as he says he thinks the course will present a good challenge as is, "The golf course is pretty tough as it is.  There might be a little bit of rough grown up in some areas, but you have to shoot pretty good golf to score low here, so I don't think we'll toughen it up any more than it already is."

The tournament will be held July 8th to 10th, 2013.
