There's a full day of basketball on tap at Riverview Collegiate on Saturday.

The second annual Hoops for Hunger fundraiser, hosted by the Moose Jaw Thunder basketball club, will take over the hardwood for the day starting at 10 a.m.

All the funds raised through the day will go to Hunger in Moose Jaw.

"Last year we raised about $3,000 for them and this year, we're hoping to do as well," said Thunder coach Curt Lorge. "This is all led by the girls, they've done all the leg work, the organizing and I'm just overseeing everything."

The fundraiser was started last year as a way to teach the players about more than just basketball skills.

"They learn so much more with our programming, the responsibility due to our community and how much our community gives them," said Lorge. "They just love doing it, it's the craziest thing, I would have never have thought about it for grade six to nine girls. They're organizing bake sales on their own, they set up a booth at Superstore on their own to collect money. It's really great to see these young ladies step up like this."

The day will feature an Alumni vs current player game at 11 a.m. There will be a free throw contest at 1 p.m. and a shooting contest at 4 p.m.

The under-13 girls Thunder team will face the Moose Jaw Ballers at 2 p.m. and a U15 girls game will go at 3 p.m.

The highlight of the day will be a game against the parents at 6:30 p.m.

"Anyone that wants to stop and watch the girls run and play games, the bleachers will be set up and there will be a donation box set up at the front door," said Lorge.

The action will run from 10 am-10pm on Saturday.
