Moose Jaw Warriors’ fans will have one of their own to cheer for next month when the 2017 Canada/Russia Series comes to Mosaic Place.

Warriors captain Brett Howden was named to the Team WHL roster on Tuesday, joining Tim Hunter, who will be serving as the team’s head coach.

The Western Hockey League named 20 players to Team WHL for the first two games of the six-game series.

Howden will be joined on the team by fellow NHL first round picks, Cody Glass of the Portland Winterhawks, Michael Rasmussen of the Tri-City Americans, Sam Steel of the Regina Pats, Jake Bean of the Calgary Hitmen, Dennis Cholowski of the Prince George Cougars and Cal Foote of the Kelowna Rockets.

In seven games this season, Howden has registered two goals and eight points while helping the Warriors to a 7-2-0-0 record.

Hockey Canada uses the annual series between the Canadian Hockey League and Team Russia to evaluate players for that year’s World Junior Hockey Championship.

CHL teams hold an overall record of 58-19-1-6 in the event, which started in 2003.

The two WHL games this year will be held on Nov. 6 here in Moose Jaw at Mosaic Place and Nov. 7 at the Credit Union Iplex in Swift Current.

Warrior season ticket holders have tickets for the game at Mosaic Place in their season ticket package, while tickets are on sale now to the general public at mjwarriors.ca.
