Former Moose Jaw Warriors captain Brett Howden helped out his cause as he looks to make the jump into the National Hockey League this season.

Howden scored his first NHL preseason goal as the New York Rangers to a 4-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night in the preseason finale.

Howden is attempting to make the Rangers’ lineup after being dealt to New York from Tampa Bay in the Ryan McDonagh trade at last season’s trade deadline. He was originally selected by the Lightning with the 27th overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft.

In 248 career games with the Warriors, Howden posted 109 goals and 267 points.

The Rangers will open the regular season next Thursday against the Nashville Predators.
