The Moose Jaw High School Soccer Leagues might be in trouble heading into its next season this fall if there isn't an influx of new officials.

League Commissioner Scott Wicker has told DiscoverMooseJaw.com that there is a shortage of officials right now and that might lead to some changes for the league.

"We're in the process of planning for our upcoming season and looking at the fact that we'll have very few referees to referee our boys and girls soccer games," said Wicker.

"As it stands right now, we're in dire need of some officials, we've some referees due to some movement of some teachers and just some retirements of some old officials as well."

Without some new officials coming on board, the league could scale back the number of games played to just a few exhibition games instead of a full season.

Wicker said they're looking for anyone interested in giving being an official a shot.

"We're trying to set up some referee clinics over the summer, in the next few months, and if anyone has some soccer experience, if they played the game or if they have some referee experience, that will also be beneficial," he said.

Referees are paid per game and Wicker said they could work anywhere between 10-15 games next season depending on the number of games and officials.
