The love of soccer is taking one Central Collegiate student halfway across the globe to pursue his dreams.

Jace Fraser started playing soccer at only three years old and has been in love with the sport ever since. He explains what got him into soccer.

"It's what I've been raised on. My dad used to play soccer when he was in high school and he passed his passion for it on to me."

As he was getting older, however, Fraser began noticing that there weren't many opportunities to continue playing soccer here in Saskatchewan, at least not at a professional level. So when the chance came to sign with a soccer academy in Badajoz, Spain, he knew he couldn't throw away the chance.

"I just had to pounce on it. I want to continue doing what I love and show people that there are opportunities for kids to follow their dreams."

Fraser will be joining the B team at U.D Montijo Academy, an affiliated school with Newen Sports. He was introduced to the program by his coach, Serbian native Aleksandar Bijelic, who is a member of Newen Sport and responsible for Canadian talent.

"He's been my coach for about four or five years now. He's very passionate and always wants the best for his players. I was fortunate to get his recommendation."

He says that being able to take advantage of the indoor field at the Yara Centre has allowed him to keep up his skills throughout the entire year.

"I'd say it has definitely help me and probably got me even more into the sport. Just being able to play 12 months a year instead of just six or eight."

While being nervous about moving so far away from his family and home, Fraser can't wait for the chance to pursue what he loves.
