Winnipeg scored two power-play goals in the first period and added another one in the third and went on to edge the Moose Jaw Warriors 6-3 yesterday at the Subway WHL Hub in Regina.

The Warriors started the game strongly and created early pressure, however, that momentum was stalled by taking back-to-back penalties.

Winnipeg had 1:57 to work on a two-man advantage, which they turned into a Peyton Krebs goal at 9:01.  Still, on the power play, Connor McClennon scored 56 seconds later to increase their lead.

The ICE continued to pressure the Warriors inside the Moose Jaw zone. At 10:52, Zachary Benson knocked in a loose puck on the left side of the crease, and then at 13:11, Cole Muir crashed the net and scored to give Winnipeg a commanding 4-0 lead.

With just under six minutes remaining in the period, Warriors rookie forward Josh Hoekstra chipped the puck around the ICE defenceman at the Moose Jaw blueline.

16-year-old Jagger Firkus pounced on the puck and led an odd-man rush up the ice.  With Kade Runke on the right-wing, Firkus decided to take the shot from inside the left circle where he scored his third of the season.

Three minutes later and working on the power play, a Tate Popple shot from the high slot went off an ICE player and slid over to Denton Mateychuk in the left circle where his shot found the back of the net, his second of the season made it a two-goal game going into the first intermission.

Moose Jaw continued to pressure throughout the second period and outshot the ICE 13-9 in the frame.

With 1:42 remaining in the period, Riley Krane had the puck behind the Winnipeg net and was able to connect with Atley Calvert at the right faceoff dot.  The Moose Jaw product let a quick shot go that beat Gage Alexander, his second of the season pulled Moose Jaw to within one going to the second intermission.

Throughout the third period, the Warriors kept coming towards the Winnipeg net.  They were hard on pucks along the wall and did a good job creating opportunities inside home plate.

However, with under five minutes left, Moose Jaw was given a penalty and the ICE used that to their advantage.  Jakin Smallwood scored their third power-play goal of the game to give Winnipeg breathing room, they added an empty-net goal later in the period.

Moose Jaw was 1-for-4 on the power-play while Winnipeg was 3-for-3.

The guys have Thursday off to prepare for a pair of games coming up on the weekend.  On Friday they renew their long rivalry with the Swift Current Broncos and then on Saturday they take on the Saskatoon Blades.
