A barnstorming pee wee girls fastball team from New Zealand will be taking on the Moose Jaw Ice U14 Girls team Sunday.

The Ice are taking on New Zealand ISA in a pair of games at Optimist Park.

Paul Litzenberger, an assistant coach with the Ice, is looking forward to what should be a great spectacle of fastball. He said he was talking recently with a coach from Saskatoon and found out they were playing a team from New Zealand.

“I thought it was a great opportunity for the girls just to see some talent from another country and to play against them, just to see how they compare,” he said. “I think we’ve got a fantastic team that can play with a lot of these girls.”

“We’re really excited to showcase the girls, and showcase what we have in store, even our diamonds,” said Litzenberger. “We wanted to make sure that the games themselves were played at our home diamonds. We have a really good grounds staff that takes care of them through the summer, and we’ve got a great parent group that helps take care of them for the games themselves.”

Gates will open at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, with the first pitch of both games to go at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. There is a $5 admission charge, which will let spectators watch both games.
