James Gallo's voice is a familiar one to those who listen to Moose Jaw Warriors hockey on the radio.

The long-time play-by-play announcer called his 1,000th game for the Warriors in their 3-1 loss to the Saskatoon Blades on Sunday night in Regina.

Following the game, the team held a small celebration for Gallo’s milestone.

“Tanner Arnold is back with the team and that's great. He came over and he and Brooke Kosolofski, the long-time athletic therapist, they gave me the game puck which was great," Gallo said.

“And then I finished up everything that I was doing, and Tate Popple came and grabbed me and Tate brought me into the locker-room. The boys said some kind words to me and it was great.”

Gallo began his career as a part-time reporter at the radio station in 2000 and moved into the role of Game Day Host on Warriors Hockey on 800 CHAB shortly afterward.

He would work under play-by-play announcers Rob Carnie, Drew Haubrich and Randy Merkley for several years before he became the Voice of the Warriors.

He said the relationships he’s made with people in the hockey organization are one of the best parts of the job.

“You're lucky enough to see them come in as 15-year-olds, maybe, or 16-year-olds and you watch them grow up and have success. You’re that proud uncle. You're the proud cool uncle,” he said.

Gallo is now the director of hockey administration with the Warriors, while continuing his role as the play-by-play announcer.

You can hear Gallo’s next call on Country 100 on Wednesday when the Warriors take on the Brandon Wheat Kings from the WHL east division hub in Regina. The puck drops at 4 p.m.
