Warriors-Oct29-Pats2

It might have been their first meeting of the regular season, but the Moose Jaw Warriors and Regina Pats made it feel like playoff hockey Saturday night as neither team wanted to give an inch. In the end, the tribe skated away with a 3-2 win over the Pats at Mosaic Place.

Regina led 2-1 after the first period following a pair of goals from Chandler Stephenson  in the opening frame. Tanner Eberle scored his second of the year in the first as well.

But the Pats wouldn’t beat Warrior net minder Luke Siemens for the rest of the game.

Quinton Howden scored for Moose Jaw with just 56 seconds to go in the second period to tie things up at two. The goal was disallowed at first and Carter Hansen fired the puck in seconds later, but after review officials said the original shot was in.

Then, just 2:02 into the third period, Brett Lyon scored his seventh on the year with Moose Jaw on the powerplay for the 3-2 lead. From there, the Warriors would hold on for the win.

Siemens made 22 saves, while Regina's Adam Beukeboom picked up the second star on the night with 36 stops.

The win pulls Moose Jaw to a point back of the Pats for first place in the East Division and puts them in a tie for second with the Saskatoon Blades. The Blades will visit Mosaic Place Friday night.
