With new regulations coming into force Friday, the Moose Jaw Kinsmen Flying Fins are hopeful they can stay in the water for the time being.

The Flying Fins have gone over and above some of the guidelines, including wearing masks right up until going into the shower or the pool.

“We still need to be in the water, and we still to do our training for our championship meets that start in March,” said Flying Fins head coach Gord Shields. “There’s still no schedule, and we don’t know what’s going to happen. Of course, we’ve got to wait till the new year to see what’s going to happen. We’ve got to wait until the new year to see how things are going to go. Right now they are on the schedule, so There’s a lot of training involved to prepare for those high level meets.

With the amount of smaller groups, Shields would like the team to get a bigger chunk of time in the pool.

“To restrict a group to eight or less, we can certainly deal with that and handle that, and still keeping the youth active, which I think is the most important part,” said Shields. “We’ll have to split the groups into smaller groups and then maybe have fewer hours of training in the water but we’re still going to keep them active and still going to keep them training. We can certainly meet these new guidelines that have been put forward.”

Shields said the only situation is that there will be fewer training hours than they have right now. With more pool time, they would appreciate the chance to get more time for the club in the pool.
