Moose Jaw’s Aimee and Alex Kowalski will get a chance to win a world championship on Friday.

The two local football players helped Team Canada to a 35-0 win over Great Britain on Tuesday at the 2017 IFAF Women’s World Championship in Langley, B.C.

Canada will now face the United States for gold on Friday.

Aimee Kowalski had a massive game for Canada at quarterback, completing 10-of-14 passes for 219 yards with three touchdowns and one interception to lead the way in the rout.

Kowalski’s top target was Laurence Pontbriand, who finished with four catches for 135 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown.

Alex Kowalski hauled in one pass for 37 yards in the win.

The game was scoreless through the first quarter, but Canada exploded for three touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 21-0 halftime lead. They added a rushing touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters each to seal the win.

Canada is now 2-0 at the world championship and will meet up with the two-time defending gold medallist from the United States.

The two North American nations have met in the final of all three world championships with the U.S. winning 66-0 in 2010 and 64-0 in 2013. Canada will try to reverse their fortunes with a win on their home turf coming up on Friday. Kick-off is at 8:30 p.m. Saskatchewan time.
