The two Moose Jaw bantam lacrosse teams had a stellar Tuesday night on their home court.

The Red Mustangs started the night by winning 9-6 over the Regina Rock, followed by the White Mustangs rolling to an 8-3 win over the Regina Swarm at Mosaic Place.

Both teams remain undefeated in the Queen City Box Lacrosse League.

Bantam: White Mustangs 8 Swarm 3

The Moose Jaw White Mustangs improved to 5-0 on the year with Tuesday’s win as they dominated play throughout the contest.

“It was good, we were able to run some plays on offence and get lots of loose balls, that was the plan going into the game,” said White Mustangs Head Coach Dustin MacAngus.

Kael Nichols led the offence for Moose Jaw with two goals and four points in the win, while Caelan Fitzpatrick picked up a goal and three points. Brydon Bell and Ethan Peters had a goal and two points each.

Tyson Broomfield, Rhett Chute and Mikkel Hrechka also found the back of the net in the win.

“We’ve been able to find the back of the net so far this year, so it’s been good and we’ve got some wins, that always makes the season more enjoyable,” said MacAngus. “We’re still trying to work on lots of things, we’ve got some new faces to the sport.”

Moose Jaw jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and then were able to extend that lead to 7-1 after 40 minutes. They continued to control the play throughout the third period to hold on for the win.

MacAngus said they’re seeing some good progress out of the team this season.

“We’ve seen lots of improvement from everybody, especially the new guys, they’ve caught on quick and they’re working hard out there and do everything we ask of them, so it’s good,” he said.

The White Mustangs will return to the court on Thursday when they travel to Regina to take on the Rush.

Bantam: Red Mustangs 9 Rock 6

A slow start didn’t end up costing the Moose Jaw Red Mustangs on Tuesday as they scored five goals in the third period to roll to their sixth win of the season.

Atley Calvert had the first four goals for the Red Mustangs and finished with six goals and seven points in the win. Ethan Johnson, Kayde Shymko and Kale Stephenson also scored for Moose Jaw.

The Rock scored first in the opening period, but Moose Jaw quickly answered back with Calvert’s first of the game. The Red Mustangs started to turn it on in the second period, extending their lead to 4-2.

The third period was back-and-forth with the Rock scoring twice in the opening two minutes to tie the game.

Johnson and Shymko scored back-to-back goals just 16 seconds apart to put Moose Jaw back in front for good.

The Red Mustangs are now 6-0-1 on the year. They’re off until next Tuesday when they have a showdown with the White Mustangs at Mosaic Place.

Novice: Stingers 4 Mustangs 3

The Moose Jaw Mustangs had their eight-game winning streak snapped in the QCMBL’s Novice Division on Tuesday with a 4-3 loss to the Stingers in Regina.

Moose Jaw sits at 8-1 on the year. They return to the court on Sunday to host the Weyburn Thrashers 2 at the Kinsmen Arena.
