Just recently a bowling team made up of Moose Javians and residents of Weyburn came home with smiles on their faces and hardware from a tournament.

The team won the two-day Funbowl Provincial Championship in Saskatoon and now will be moving on to an even bigger challenge.

"We ended up finishing third place... tied for third, so we kind of knew what we had to work on for Sunday to get us going again," explained local bowler, Austin Westermann. "We ended up finishing in first place for the round robin and we automatically qualified for the semi-final."

After turning things around Sunday morning they finished by winning gold against a team from Prince Albert.

"We were all pretty excited, some of us were a little emotional. It was pretty much the first time for everyone on our team, except for our coach I think. He's been to nationals and provincials a few times with different teams," said Westermann.

Hoping to keep this momentum going, Westermann said they'll continue to practice for nationals the same way they did for provincials. Noting that they're pretty excited to be carrying the province on their shoulders at this next tournament.

"We have Inter-Provincials, which is kind of the same as nationals, in Saskatoon towards the end of April. We compete there and we'll be representatives of Saskatchewan, like Team Saskatchewan."

They played nine games throughout the Saturday and Sunday at the Funbowl Provincial Championship to capture the top spot.
