Adison Morhart, Kendall Robinson and Tia Cathcart have bonded over cheerleading and now the three Moose Jaw athletes will have the opportunity to shine in a bright spotlight.

The trio, along with their Regina Rebels Cheerleading Athletics' Junior Level 3 team, is heading to the Summit All-Star Cheerleading Championships in Orlando, Florida next weekend after becoming the first ever Saskatchewan team selected to take part in the competition.

"I thought it was a joke at first, I thought who would actually do this but then I found out we were actually going and I was so excited," Morhart explained. "It's going to be very fun."

The team earned their spot in Orlando after a great performance at the Sea to Sky International Cheerleading Competition in Vancouver, posting a season-high score of 96.1 to finish sixth in their division. The Rebels ended up placing in the top-20 out of 120 teams and received one of the six bids to head to the Summit Championship.

The team's coaches kept the trip a secret to the athletes until their next practice when they finally unveiled that they had been selected for the international competition.

"I was very happy, I thought it was a joke at first," said Robinson, who has been cheerleading for seven years. "It's going to be very challenging because a lot of teams in North America are really good."

There will be teams from Canada, the United States and around the world competing at the event. Cathcart, who has been cheerleading for seven years, said she’s really looking forward to seeing how they stack up against the competition, "It’s going to be an amazing opportunity," she said.

The three Moose Jaw girls have had a great year with Rebels Cheerleading Athletics and have become closer friends due to the sport.

"I went to Tia’s birthday party at our old cheer club and I thought it was so much fun, so then I signed up," said Morhart, who is in her second season of cheerleading.

They will get a chance to perform on their biggest stage yet on May 4 in Florida.
