Two Moose Jaw cheerleaders will be getting their chance to shine among the best in the world this weekend.

Christa Jamieson, Hope Brenner and the Regina Lady Luminous cheerleading team will competing against teams from over 40 countries at the 2018 Cheerleading World Championships in Orlando, Fla.

"I'm very excited, but I'm also nervous," said Jamieson earlier this week before leaving for the world championships. "We've been practicing a lot over the past few days, it's mainly getting those last upgrades into our routine and perfecting them."

Jamieson and Brenner both came up through the Moose Jaw Cobra Ceer and Vanier Cheer programs before moving onto the Lady Luminous all-star team based out of Regina last year.

They've been working hard over the past 12 months to get ready for the world championships. The Lady Luminous earned their way to worlds when they walked away with an at-large bid in early March at True North Championship in Edmonton. They followed that up by securing a partial-paid spot when they won the Best of the West Championship in Regina on Mar. 19.

"We've been training since June," said Jamieson. "We've been practicing a lot over the past year leading up this event."

Moving up from a level 2 team to a level 5 team this season has been a challenge for Jamieson, but one that she has tackled head-on.

"I feel like my coaches have just been awesome with helping me get all the level five skills that I need to incorporate into the routine to help the rest of my team," she said.

This won't be the first time that Jamieson and Brenner compete in Florida after they took part in the International Championship with a Moose Jaw team.

"When we went in 2016, it was in a smaller arena and a tent, but this arena that we're competing in this time is the brand new cheerleading arena that was build at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex for this competition and we're going to be the first division to compete in it," she said. "It's going to be a really cool experience."

Jamieson said that she's feeling confident in the work that their team has put in throughout the season to get ready.

"We really just need to stay together as a team, make sure that we're supporting each other, cheering each other on the mat and just going back to our basics and remembering our technique and skills," she said.

The Lady Luminous is one of five Saskatchewan teams that will be competing at the world championships, which get underway on Saturday.
