The Moose Jaw Matadors Fencing Club sent two fencers to the Militia Open Tournament in Saskatoon last week and Parker Loucks was able to bring home a bronze medal in the Cadet Men's Epee category.

Despite the podium finish, Loucks felt he was rusty during the tournament after the holiday break.

“I didn't really do as well as I was hoping, overall I was disappointed with how I did,” said Loucks.

“The one that I got bronze in, that was fine, although I was hoping for a bit higher than that, but the tournament as a whole wasn't really what I was hoping for it to be.”

Loucks also picked up a fifth place finish in Junior Men's Epee.

“During the season there isn't really a lot going on during Christmas and a lot of people really weren't performing how they wanted to,” said Loucks. “I was just out of practice and now I'm focused on getting back on track.

“I'm hoping to travel a bit more to other clubs around the province to get more practice.”

Jennifer Shrubsole, also from the Matadors Club, was fifth in Master's Mixed Epee and ninth in Open Women's Epee at the same tournament on the weekend.
