Three curling rinks with Moose Jaw ties will be vying for the Saskatchewan Men’s and Women’s Junior Curling Championships this week at the Callie Curling Club in Regina.

The Skylar Ackerman and Brett Behm rinks will be representing the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre at provincials, while Moose Jaw’s Carson Ackerman will be curling with his rink from Saskatoon.

Skylar Ackerman said her rink is well prepared for the week ahead, “We’ve been practicing lots and the girls are ready,” she said.

“We’ve improved a lot just in the last two weeks, so we’re peaking at the right time and it should be a great competition.”

This is the second straight trip to the junior provincials for the Ackerman rink, which also includes third Madison Johnson, second Makena Simmons and lead Samantha McLaren.

Ackerman said they’re hoping that a few bounces will go their way this week as they look to walk away with the title, “We just need to get on the right side of the inch, get the rolls and rock position is going to be really important, there’s some really good teams and it’s going to be a great competition,” she said.

Ackerman faces Saskatoon’s Chaelynn Kitz in their opening game on Wednesday in Draw 1 at 3:30 p.m.

The Behm rink — which features skip Brett Behm, third Domenic Neufeld, second Brendan Ross and lead Theo Lautsch — was the first local rink to qualify for provincials. They will square off with Regina’s Austin Williamson in the opening draw on Wednesday.

Carson Ackerman’s rink curls out of the Sutherland Curling Club in Saskatoon and includes third Tyler Camm, second Eric Westad and lead Andrew Derksen.

They will open provincials against Saskatoon’s Rylan Kleiter at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The round robin runs on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, followed by the playoff round on Saturday and Sunday. All the action is happening at the Callie Curling Club. Click here for the full schedule.
