The Moose Jaw Bantam A Mavericks swept their way into the second round of the South Saskatchewan Female Hockey League with a pair of wins on Sunday and Monday.

The Mavericks cruised past the Weyburn Wings, 10-0, on Sunday at the Bert Hunt Arena and then scored a 5-1 win in Weyburn on Monday to sweep the best-of-three series.

Moose Jaw finished in first place in the regular season and they will now await their next opponent in the second round of the playoffs.

The Midget AA Mavericks lost out in the first round of their playoffs over the weekend, falling 19-4 to the Regina Capitals on Friday and then losing 17-2 in Game 2 on Saturday.

The Moose Jaw Warriors Peewee A Warriors are looking to lock up first place in the Hockey Regina League and they really helped their cause this weekend with a pair of big wins.

The Warriors skated to an 8-2 win over the Prairie Storm Thunder on Friday and then knocked off the Regina Royals 3-0 on Saturday to sweep the weekend.

In Friday's win, Aiden MacDonald led the way for Moose Jaw with four goals, while Jacob Michelson and Layne Gadd added a goal and two points each. Jesse Heinbigner and Chance Cole also found the back of the net in the victory.

MacDonald scored twice in the first period as Moose Jaw built up 3-0 lead after 20. The Thunder attempted to push back in the second, but the Warriors had an answer at every corner and led 6-2 after two.

MacDonald added two more goals in the third to seal the win.

On Saturday at the Red Knight Arena, the Warriors scored in each period on their way to the shutout win.

Michelson scored in the first; Heinbigner potted his second of the weekend in the second period; and Gadd finished off the win with 23rd of the year in the third.

The Warriors now have a four-point cushion on the Regina Bisons for top spot in the league with one game to go in the regular season. Regina does have two games in hand.

Moose returns to the ice on Mar. 3 to host Lumsden at the Bert Hunt.

In other Hockey Regina League action over the weekend, the Bantam A Warriors lost 8-1 to the Regina Tigers with Brady Chinas scoring the lone goal for Moose Jaw.  They finish their regular season this Friday in Southey.

The Midget A Warriors lost a pair, falling 8-3 to the Indian Head Chiefs on Friday and then losing 3-1 to the Prairie Storm on Saturday. Keegan Coffin, Dawson Colenutt and Jordan Johnson scored in Friday’s loss, while Johnson had Moose Jaw’s lone goal on Saturday.

The Warriors are back on the ice for two games to end the regular season this weekend, they host the Prairie Storm on Saturday at the Bert Hunt and then head to Indian Head on Sunday.

The Moose Jaw Peewee AA Warriors lost 9-3 to the Estevan Bruins on Friday at the Red Knight Arena to end the regular season in the South Saskatchewan Minor Hockey League.

Haydn Hudyma, Liam Fitzpatrick and Ty Pratte scored in the loss as Moose Jaw went 0-for-5 on the power play in the loss.

Moose Jaw finished in sixth place with a 5-18-2 record. They will meet in the Swift Current Broncos for Game 1 of their best-of-three first round series on Friday. Game 2 goes on Saturday at the Bert Hunt Arena.

The Moose Jaw Bantam AA Warriors had their season come to an end with 9-0 loss to the Yorkton Terriers, who swept their best-of-three playoff series.

The Warriors were 0-31-0 during the regular season and didn’t find the back of the net in both their playoff games.
