Kendall McFaull’s stellar play with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies is being recognized again.

The former Moose Jaw Warriors captain was named to the U Sports All-Star Team on Monday and he will get the chance to head to Hockey Canada’s World Junior Selection Camp next week.

“It’s a pretty cool opportunity to play against the World Junior team, when I was playing for Moose Jaw, you dream of playing in the World Juniors, so this is the second-best thing to play against them,” said McFaull.

This is the second straight year that McFaull has received the opportunity to play for the all-star team.  He said it’s a great chance to show how strong the U Sports Hockey is.

“We get to expose the rest of the world to U Sports Hockey and for the guys that are ending their U Sports careers, it’s an opportunity to get noticed if they want to continue playing hockey,” said McFaull.

McFaull is in his fifth season with the Huskies and has gotten off to a great start individually with four goals and seven points in 15 games.  He’s currently one goal off his career-high and just four points back with half of the season left to go.

He said he came into this season looking to contribute more in his final season.

“My defensive game has always been fairly rounded, so for the last little bit, I’ve been working on being a little more offensive and dynamic on the blue-line,” said McFaull.

“It’s nice to put in the hard work and see it come together on the ice. Playing net-front on the power play has definitely helped contribute to my goals, that’s where I’ve scored most of them.”

McFaull has been having a successful season and the Huskies are as well with a 13-2-1 record heading into the holiday break after sweeping their home-and-home with the Regina Cougars last weekend.

“After ending off last year being national finalists, we definitely wanted to start quick this year and play well and our record shows it,” said McFaull.  “At 13-2-1, we can’t complain.”

The Huskies have been receiving contributions from throughout their lineup and that’s led to the early season success, which has them in second place in the Canada West conference behind the 15-1-0 Alberta Golden Bears.

“We’re a deep team, it hasn’t just been one line every night, that’s what has got us in the past is we only had one line produce and now if the top line isn’t producing, the guys below step up and that’s been the biggest thing so far,” said McFaull.

The Rosetown product will be putting the Huskies in the rearview mirror next week and focus on battling against the Canadian national junior team.

McFaull said he’s looking forward to possibly squaring off with Warriors’ captain Brett Howden during the camp.

“That was a lot of fun (last year) to have him there and play against him, and to know Tim Hunter too and interact with him and get the inside scoop on the World Junior selection process was kind of cool,” said McFaull.

The U Sports All-Stars will face off with the Canadian World Junior hopefuls next Wednesday and Thursday in St. Catherines, Ont.
