The Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre. It’s as much of a sure thing as a winter snowfall in Saskatchewan.

The Pioneer 112th Moose Jaw Men’s Bonspiel returns for another year coming up this weekend and the event continues to go strong at the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre.

“The entries last year were a little low, but we were backed up with another local bonspiel, so this year we made sure we weren’t conflicting with anybody,” said Shaunna Fritzler, business manager at the MJFCC.  “We’re looking forward to a great spiel this weekend.”

16 teams from around the local area have entered in the event so far, but there’s still room for more before the bonspiel gets underway.

“Entries have been coming in really good,” said Fritzler.  “We’re just getting ready, making plans for the draw and making plans for the weekend.”

The Pioneer Men’s Bonspiel is one that is steeped in tradition, being the longest running spiel in the province.

“It just shows a lot for the sport of curling and what it means to the community for an event like this to be running for 112 consecutive years,” said Fritzler.

You can still take part in the spiel as Fritzler added that they will continue accepting entries throughout the week.  Contact the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre at 306-624-2048 for more information.

The draws start on Friday night at 7:00pm and will run until Sunday afternoon.
