The Moose Jaw Miller Express headed into Weyburn looking to hand the Beavers their first loss of the season on Saturday night.

Moose Jaw jumped out to an early lead, but couldn't hold on as they fell 6-2 to the Beavers, who improved to a league-best 12-0 this season.

The Millers are now 9-5 on the year, which has them in second place in the Western Major Baseball League's Eastern Division behind Weyburn.

Moose Jaw opened the game with a run in the first inning, despite not picking up a hit. Eric Marriott led off the game by getting hit by a pitch and then he came around to score after a stolen base and an error.

Weyburn answered in the bottom half and the teams were tied 1-1 after one.

Scott Platt put the Millers back in front in the fifth inning with an RBI-single, but the Beavers would take control after that. They scored twice in the sixth and added three more in the eighth for the win.

Mason Garispe was tagged with the loss for Moose Jaw despite throwing a quality start, allowing three earned runs on four hits and four walks over six innings. He struck out seven.

Nick Falco surrendered three unearned runs on two hits over two innings with one strikeout.

Weyburn starter Ryan Johnson allowed two runs on two hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out ten.

The Millers were held to just five hits in the loss.

Moose Jaw will try to bounce back when they host the Regina Red Sox for a Father's Day matinee at Ross Wells Park. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
