The Moose Jaw Miller Express fell behind early and couldn’t catch up against the last place Yorkton Cardinals on Wednesday night in the Western Major Baseball League.

The Millers made a late push, but ended up falling 6-3 to the Cardinals in the second game of their five-game road trip this week.

Shortstop Geordie McDougall had an RBI-double in the seventh to get Moose Jaw on the board and they added two more runs in a messy ninth inning for Yorkton.

Millers starter Jesse Marks took the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits and three walks. He did strike out seven over six innings of work.

Matt Perry allowed one run on one hit with two strikeouts in the seventh, while Nick Falco was tagged for one run on two hits while striking out three in the eighth inning.

Yorkton opened the scoring with a lead-off home run from Colin Kellington on the first pitch of the game from Marks. They would add three more runs in the fourth inning with two coming off an RBI-double from Jack Swisher.

Moose Jaw started to push back in the seventh with one run, but the Cardinals answered with a run of their own in the bottom half, followed by another insurance run in the eighth.

The offence was there throughout the game for the Millers as they matched Yorkton with 11 hits, but Moose Jaw stranded 12 runners on base in the loss.

McDougall was 2-for-5 with an RBI in the loss, while DH Blake Gallagher went 2-for-3 with two walks and a run scored. Left fielder Ty Schindel and first baseman Markus Gregson also finished with two hits on the night for Moose Jaw.

The Millers are now 21-23 on the year as they prepare for a potential playoff preview on Thursday night against the first place Weyburn Beavers at Tom Laing Park. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
