In a first round playoff preview, the Moose Jaw Miller Express and Weyburn Beavers went back-and-forth on Saturday afternoon.

The first place Beavers pulled off a narrow 5-4 win over the visiting Millers at Tom Laing Park.

The loss puts Moose Jaw's record at 22-25 heading into the regular season finale against the Melville Millionaires on Sunday night at Ross Wells Park.

Moose Jaw opened the scoring in the first inning when outfielder Eric Marriott led off the game with a single and came around to score when Ty Schindel was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and two outs.

Weyburn answered back with one run in the bottom half of the first, but the Millers were able to retake the lead in the second on an RBI-single from Marriott.

The Beavers took control of the game in the bottom of the third, picking up their first run on another bases loaded hit-by-pitch from Tyler Scott and then Corey Wheaton cashed in a pair of runs with a two-out single to make it 4-2 for Weyburn.

Moose Jaw pulled within one with a lead-off home run from Mitchell Robinson in the fourth, however the Beavers moved back in front by two in the fifth with an RBI-single from Wheaton and that would prove to be an important run.

The Millers cut the lead back down to one with another lead-off home run, this one from Schindel, but that was as close as they could get.

Beavers starter Conner DiNaro went eight innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, while striking out seven and walking one.

Shandon Herrera picked up the save, giving up a lead-off single to Robinson before retiring the next three batters to finish off the win.

Mason Garispe started for the Miller Express and took the loss on the afternoon, allowing four runs on nine hits over four innings. He struck out six and walked three.

Travis Edgar allowed one run on two hits in an inning of work, while Nick Falco threw a 1 2/3 perfect innings of relief and Tannar Galey allowed one hit and struck out one in 1 1/3 innings.
