Downtown Moose Jaw is being taken over this weekend by Rogers’ Hometown Hockey.

The weekend will feature a number of events, starting at noon Saturday, that centre around hockey and the sport here in Moose Jaw.

That has the Moose Jaw Minor Hockey Association excited about taking part in the nationally televised event and everything that it will be bringing to the Friendly City.

“There’s lots of excitement throughout the association,” said Dara McIntosh, Executive Director for MJMHA. “We’ve been getting a lot of phone calls at the office from people wondering what’s happening and how they can be a part of it.”

McIntosh added that they’re encouraging all local minor hockey players to sport their jerseys when they head downtown for the festivities this weekend.

“We want everyone to get downtown and take part, this is a once in a lifetime experience for our association and the city and we’re really excited,” said McIntosh.

The festival aspect of Hometown Hockey will be running throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday on Main Street from High Street down to Manitoba Street.  There will also be a viewing party on Sunday night during the Sportsnet broadcast of the Ottawa Senators against Edmonton Oilers game at 6 p.m. Sask time.
