The local teams in the Moose Jaw Minor Hockey Association’s Atom Division will be looking fresh this season after receiving new jerseys during a special presentation on Wednesday night.

Over 100 local hockey players gathered at the McDonald’s on Ninth Avenue NE to receive their jerseys for the season.

"It was a very exciting to see all the smiles on the kids' faces, the restaurant was at capacity, cheeseburgers were getting flipped like crazy, it was awesome to see," said Chris Flanagan, coordinator for the Atom Division.

Each year, Doug and Marilyn Dooley, owners of McDonald’s here in Moose Jaw, donate new jerseys, socks and toques to the teams in the local Atom Division.

Flanagan said it’s a big donation each year for the league, "The kids get to keep them at the end of the year as well, so it’s very exciting and rewarding for the kids to take home their own jersey at the end of the season," he said.

"Doug and I had the idea this summer to hold the jersey presentation night and after the reception last night, it was amazing and this will be the start of something great going forward."

The Atom Division will hit the ice for its first games next week and Flanagan said they’re ready for a big season ahead.

"It’s very exciting, there’s a promising year ahead," he said. "This year we have two female teams, which we’ve never had, plus we have over 100 boys registered. Our hometown tournament is the 11th-13th of January and there will be close to 30 teams coming to our city."
