A Moose Jaw speed skater will be on the international stage for the next two weeks.

Graeme Fish, 21, is a member of the Canadian Long Track Speed Skating team and he will be lining up against the best in the world for two World Cup events over the next two weeks in Europe.

"Training is going pretty well, it's going to be exciting to go overseas and represent Canada, so just waiting to see how I do and hopefully I improve on my times, skate good and get some good experience," said Fish.

This Sunday's 10,000-metre race in Poland will mark the second time that Fish has competed in a World Cup event, while next Sunday's 5,000m in the Netherlands will be his third opportunity.

Fish said he was able to learn a lot during last year's World Cup when he finished in 14th place.

"Last year was really cool, it was nice to watch some good racing," he said. "Last year, I was just there to experience it all and what you do to prepare for a World Cup and just to see where I stand against everyone else in the world is pretty cool."

In October, Fish put together a strong showing at the Canadian Championship in Calgary, finishing third in the 5,000m behind Ted-Jan Bloeman -- silver medalist at the Olympics -- and Jordan Belchos, also an Olympic athlete.

Fish also picked up a second place finish in the 10,000m finishing just behind Belchos.

"I wasn't really surprised with the placing, my 5K could have been a bit better, I was focused on skating a time instead of skating my race, but my 10K was really well, I skated well," said Fish.

"Jordan kind of got ahead of me at the beginning and I brought it back and he just kind of beat me right at the end, but it was pretty motivational to race against him and be close, so it's telling me that I can hopefully be as good as they are in the future."

After worrying about his time during the 5,000m, Fish has been focusing on staying on his technique during races in a hopes of pushing for lower times over the next two weeks.

Fish will be on the ice in Poland this Sunday and then again next Sunday in the Netherlands for World Cup events.
