The Moose Jaw Soccer Association is gearing up for the start of its outdoor season next week, but the local organization needs help filling some coaching vacancies heading into the season.

“We’re looking for more help to make sure that our teams are at reasonable sizes that way the kids can get a lot of touches on the ball, get proper training and making sure it’s fun for everyone involved,” said John Shurniak with Moose Jaw Soccer.

There isn’t an exact number of coaches needed right now, but Shurniak said they’re looking for at least two more in all their age divisions.

“We’re looking for 2-3 for U4, 2-3 for U6 and a few for U8 and a couple for our older age groups as well,” said Shurniak. “We’re kind of all over the place, so if there’s a certain skill level or night that works for parents, we can definitely accommodate for you to help out.”

If you’re interested but don’t have any previous experience with coaching soccer or coaching in general, don’t worry, as Moose Jaw Soccer is there to help out.

“They don’t need previous experience, but being good with kids is the biggest asset that we need for coaching soccer,” said Shurniak. “For all our age groups, we have a technical coach that can help out with games and drills to show the way.

“For games, we just need parents that can help transition kids on and off to make sure that everyone is getting equal playing time. Getting into the nitty, gritty of coaching isn’t necessary.”
