The Moose Jaw High School Junior Basketball League hit the court for one final night of games before the holiday break.

In the lone girls game, the Vanier Spirits went into Assiniboia and won 84-43 over the Rockets to improve to 2-1 on the year. Assiniboia falls to 0-3 with the loss.

The Rockets took an early lead in the first quarter, but the Spirits were able to fight back control before the end of the quarter and they led the rest of the way to the victory.

Vanier’s Kyra Lynch led all scorers with 20 points, while Bryn Giddings chipped in with 19. Lakeda Peterson was Assiniboia’s top scorer with 15 in the loss.

Here in town, the Central Red Cyclones improved to 2-0 in the Junior Varsity League thanks to an 89-47 win over the Peacock Green Toilers, who dropped to 1-1.

Josh Reidy paced the attack for the Red Cyclones with 16 points in the win, while Mohamma Ali added 15. Peacock’s Decvin Baumann led all scorers with 17 points in the loss.

In the Junior Boys League, the Vanier Red Vikings cruised to a 2-0 record with a 107-41 win over the Peacock Orange Toilers, who fell to 0-2; and the Central Gold Cyclones also improved to 2-0 thanks to a 75-26 victory over the Vanier White Vikings, who are now 0-2.

The junior basketball leagues will return to the court on Monday, Jan. 8 with four games.

The Moose Jaw High School Senior Basketball League closes out the pre-Christmas schedule with four games on Tuesday night. The Vanier Spirits and Vikings head over to Central to face the Cyclones at 6:20 p.m. and 8 p.m, while the Peacock Toilers hit the road to Assiniboia to take on the Rockets at 5:20 p.m. and 7 p.m.
