The Moose Jaw Major AAA All-Stars fell one win short of capturing the provincial title over the weekend.

Moose Jaw dropped a 7-2 game to the Regina Kiwanis Nationals in the Saskatchewan Little League Championship final on Sunday in the Queen City.

"We played really good," said Moose Jaw head coach Tony Dreger. "Today was a big day for us and we hit the ball, but they just didn't find the holes for us."

Despite going 0-2 in the round robin, Moose Jaw found their stride in Friday's semifinal game, coming away with a 7-4 win over the North Regina Little League All-Stars.

"The first two games were kind of building games knowing that we'd get into Friday and we'd have a good opportunity and with our backs against the wall, we came through and hit the ball really well," said Dreger on their semifinal win.

The win put Moose Jaw into the final as they looked to up end Regina Kiwanis, who had won 6-0 over the local squad in the round robin.

"Their pitching is decent, but they hit the ball, their first five guys hit the ball all the time, so they hit the ball and they deserved what they got today," said Dreger.

Moose Jaw was a younger squad this year, which means they will have a big group returning next year to challenge for the provincial crown once again.

"We had seven 11-year-olds on a 11 and 12-year-old team, so we had a lot of growing up, maturing and getting better to do, so we worked hard all year trying to stay positive and stay as a team and grow together and the boys did a fantastic job of that," said Dreger.

"The boys are already looking forward to next year, so we get a kick at the can again."
