Moose Jaw Minor Football is hoping some changes to age groups can bring out more first year players to try the sport.

Football Canada changed the age groups to be all the same nation wide.

Moose Jaw Minor Football's Scott Montgomery said that registration for football season is ongoing now.

“We’re looking for an increase and we’re hoping there’s other kids out there that maybe were a little intimidated with the three year divisions before,” said Montgomery. “Now knowing that they’re playing against peers of their size and age, maybe that closes the gap for the kid just thinking about it.

He said they also have Jumpstart available for parents of kids enrolling in moose jaw minor football, and said they'll never turn away a kid based on finances.

Age groups are U14, U12 and U10, said Montgomery and they're not sure what numbers will be for this year.

“With the divisions all changing, from the tunnelling of information from Football Canada, divisions have been changing, so now everything is two year divisions, standard across the country, we’re not really sure to be honest. But we’re always looking for more kids and new kids, and that’s ultimately the goal,” he said.

There is a special first year rate for players. Registration is available at mjfootball.ca
