A Moose Jaw woman has placed top 20 in the world in 3D archery.

Heather LeDuc placed 17th in the Lac La Biche 2019 World Archery 3D Championships held Sept. 2 - Sept. 7.

"It was really an amazing tournament," said LeDuc. "I think Canada did an amazing job putting the Worlds on. The venue was great and it was fun to see all of our different competitors from around the world, and we had beautiful weather."

LeDuc spent part of her childhood in Brazil and moved to Canada when she was in grade eight. While she had some practice shooting a bow and arrow as a child, she didn't seriously pick it up until about five years ago.

Since then, LeDuc has already set a Canadian record, dominated at Nationals three years in a row, won gold medals at various tournaments, and was selected to join the Canadian Archery Team for the 2016 Summer Olympics in France.

"I went to Worlds with the longbow and came about the 26th, so I was really excited for 17th. We compete against some really tough competitors from Europe who do a lot of tournaments and a lot of them shoot almost for a living."

Now LeDuc says she'll enjoy a few months of downtime until the new year.

"We're going to focus on a different discipline of archery, it's field shooting, and hopefully get on the Canadian team to go to the World's in South Dakota this coming summer, and then we will focus back on 3D World's in Italy in two years."
