The 13th annual Moose Jawg Charity Road Race raises funds for the Moose Jaw Health Foundation with over $80,000 brought in during the first 12 years.Running in rubber boots might be a wise choice on Tuesday, as the 13th annual Moose Jawg Charity Road Race is set to go in Wakamow Valley.

The annual Canada Day tradition here in Moose Jaw will be going rain or shine in the morning, but the competing runners could be in for a wet run after plenty of rain over the past few days.

“The runners just need to be prepared that it’s going to be wet,” said Dawn Luhning, race director.  “It’s going to be rough in a few spots, they’re going to have to watch their footing a little bit and that sort of thing.”

Moose Jaw hasn’t received as much as other areas in Saskatchewan, which are dealing with flooding at the moment, but the Wakamow Valley area is still wet.

Luhning said they’re saved by the fact that the majority of the course in on pavement.

“Only about 15 per cent of the course is dirt trail, so hopefully we can get through it and everything will be okay,” she said.  “I think we lucked out a little bit, it’s definitely wet down here, but we could be in a worse situation.”

The registration numbers might take a hit with the wet weather however as Luhning said she fielded some calls on Monday from people saying that they may not make it do to flooding in their area and closed roads.

“I’m really hopeful that the weather report is correct and it’s actually going to be sunny in the morning,” she said.  “We’re all ready to go and we’re set to have another big event.”

If you’re still thinking about running in the Moose Jawg, registration remains open.  You can sign up between 6:30am and 7:45am on Tuesday morning.

The runt run will kick off the event at 8:15am and then the 5K and 10K races get underway at 8:30am.  The breakfast at the Skating Oval will start at around 8:45am and the awards presentation will happen just after 10:00am.
