The Moose Jaw Midget Mustangs hit the court for their first game action of the season on Saturday and they put together a dominating performance.

The Mustangs rolled to a 16-1 win over Standing Buffalo at the Kinsmen Arena.

"We just played hard and stuck to our game plan, ran, played hard and good defence usually leads to good O," said Mustangs forward Kael Nichols after the win.

Nichols scored 37 seconds into the game to get the Mustangs rolling and he finished with a hat trick and five points in the win. Caelan Fitzpatrick added five goals and six points in the win, while Atley Calvert had four goals and six points. Kirkland Mullen scored twice, and Tanner Funk and Noah Schindel also scored in the win.

Moose Jaw led 6-0 after the first period and extended that lead to 11-1 after two. They added five more goals in the third period to seal the victory.

"We can definitely work on our whole game, if we can just top it up a bit, clean everything up and we'll be good to go," he said.

Moose Jaw was hosting Standing Buffalo for games across all four divisions at the Kinsmen as part of the Atimiskakewak National Gathering, which was being hosted in the Friendly City throughout the week.

The Peewee Mustangs started the day with a 13-4 win over Standing Buffalo. Mason Williams had a hat trick and four points, while captain Josh Johnson added a hat trick and five points in the win for Moose Jaw.

The next game saw the Novice Mustangs hit the court for a 10-4 win over Standing Buffalo. Nash Williams posted a hat trick; Luke Turned had two goals and three points; and Harrison Pethick picked up a goal and four points in the victory.

The Bantam Mustangs roll to a 17-1 win over Standing Buffalo in the final game of the day. Braxton Mac Angus had a hat trick and six points to lead the way for the Mustangs in the win, while Rowan Calvert chipped in with two goals.
