Moose Jaw's Candace Newkirk and her Saskatchewan rink secured a spot in the quarterfinals at the 2015 Travelers Curling Club Championship with a split of their games on Thursday in Ottawa.

Saskatchewan started the day by beating Nova Scotia, 12-4, thanks to a six-ender, but they then fell, 6-3, to Quebec to finish off the round robin at 4-2.

The opening game of the day saw Newkirk and Saskatchewan control the contest throughout.

Nova Scotia scored two in the first, but Saskatchewan got rolling in the second end, scoring two, they then added a steal of one in the third, two in the fourth and one more in the fifth to take a 6-2 lead.

Nova Scotia pulled within two thanks to two in the sixth end, but Saskatchewan put the game to bed thanks to a six-ender in the seventh.

The second game saw Saskatchewan again trailing early as they gave up three in the first end. They would tie the game with two in the second and a steal of one in the fourth, but Quebec won with two in the fifth and a steal of one in the seventh.

The playoff round starts on Friday with Saskatchewan facing Northern Ontario in the quarterfinals at 11:30pm. The semifinals will go at 4:30pm and the final is on Saturday at 8:00am.
