After an emotional and hard fought series, the Nipawin Hawks came away with the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's Canalta Cup on Tuesday night.

Josh McDougall scored the series-clinching goal midway through the third period to lift the Hawks to a 2-1 win over the Estevan Bruins in Game 7 at a sold-out Centennial Arena.

McDougall finished with a goal and two points in the win for Nipawin.

Hawks captain Carter Doerksen opened the scoring for the Hawks late in the first period with his first of the playoffs and Bruins captain Jake Fletcher evened the scoring midway through the second to set up a thrilling final period.

Former Moose Jaw Generals forward Jake Tremblay had an assist, while Moose Jaw's Jeremy Bisson was out of the lineup in the win for Nipawin. Estevan featured Generals alumni Jayden Davis, Tyson Manz, Tanner Manz and Austin King-Cunningham.

The Hawks will now face the Manitoba Junior Hockey League champion Steinbach Pistons in the Anavet Cup, which starts on Friday in Manitoba.
