Hockey Canada.Team Canada is coming home empty handed from the World Junior Hockey Championship in consecutive years for the first time since 1981.

Canada lost 2-1 to Russia in the bronze medal game on Sunday morning as they came up short in the third place game for the second straight year.

Russia scored twice in the first period and were able to hold the lead the rest of the way, despite Josh Morrissey scoring midway through the third period to get Canada on the board and within one.

Mikhail Grigorenko opened the scoring for Russia 3:35 into the game when Canada's Bo Horvat took an early penalty.  Russia's second goal by Eduard Gimatov is one that Canadian goalie Zach Fucale would like to have back as Gimatov beat him with a long shot from just inside the blue line.

Canada wasn't without their chances throughout the game, but Russian goalie Andrei Vaasilevski was outstanding when he need to be, making 30 saves in the win.  After the long goal on Fucale, he was strong as well, finishing with 30 stops.

This is the first time since the creation of Hockey Canada's Program of Excellence in 1982 that Canada has missed out on a medal in back-to-back years.  They will now try to rebound back on home ice next year when the tournament heads to Toronto and Montreal for 2015.
