The Moose Jaw Peewee Mavericks’ season wrapped up over the weekend as well with a 6-4 loss to the Southwest Cyclones in game two of their best-of-three first round series.

After losing a narrow 4-3 game in the opening game of the series, the Mavericks were looking to even things up on home ice and gave the Cyclones a fight right until the end.

Ashley Breitkreuz opened the scoring only 1:18 into the game for the Mavericks, but the Cyclones answered back with two goals only 48 seconds apart to take a 2-1 lead after one.

The Cyclones scored twice early in the second before Jesse Mielke stopped the momentum with a goal for the Mavericks only 27 seconds after Southwest’s second goal.

Southwest scored again late in the period to move in front 5-2 after 40.

Mielke scored just 3:25 into the third period to pull the Mavericks within two and then Jasmine Kohl made it a one-goal game with 13:08 left to play, but that was as close as the Mavericks were able to get.

Schay Camphaug made 23 saves to backstop the Mavericks in the loss.

Moose Jaw posted a 5-14-5 record during the regular season and gave the second ranked Cyclones all that they could handle in the first round series.
