The Peacock Toilers and Central Cyclones had another season opening showdown on Thursday night to kick-off the year in the Moose Jaw High School Senior Volleyball League.

The doubleheader opened with a five-set battle between the two schools’ boys teams that Peacock pulled out the win in after a back-and-forth match.

The Toilers opened up by winning the first set, 25-22, but the Cyclones struck back with a 25-23 win in the second set and a 25-18 win in the third set.

Needing a win to keep the match going, Peacock scored a 25-12 win in the fourth set and then the fifth set saw the two teams continue their back-and-forth with Peacock winning 18-16.

The girls game was a tad more one sided with the Toilers rolling to a three-set win over the Cyclones.

Peacock won the first set, 25-20; the second set, 25-21; and then finished off their rivals, 25-16, in the final set.

The next action for Peacock is coming up on Tuesday when they head on the road with the boys in Avonlea and the girls in Caronport. Central returns to the court next Thursday to host Avonlea and Caronport.
