The Peacock Toilers kept their hold on first place in the Moose Jaw High School Senior Girls Volleyball League with a strong performance at Cornerstone Christian School on Tuesday night.

The Toilers rolled to a win in three straight sets (25-13, 25-17, 25-10) over the Cornerstone Falcons during a five-game slate around the senior volleyball league.

"I thought we played well as a team, [the coaches] like to switch us up into different positions and for us to be able to pull out a win like this, like that, it worked well," said Peacock senior Alexia Aikman.

Aikman added that getting moved into different positions forces them to adjust and will make them stronger down the stretch, "It makes us focus more on what we’re supposed to do and be ready for the ball," she said.

Peacock sits at 9-2 in league play now this season, which has them just ahead of the Vanier Spirits, who improved to 8-2 with a straight-set win (25-10, 25-13, 25-14) over the Central Cyclones on Tuesday.

Cornerstone drops to 2-9 with the loss.

The Toilers have put together a strong season so far, but Aikman feels they still have room to improve over the final week of the regular season.

"We’re getting stronger," she said. "We’ve been talking and working as a team more… there are still some games where we slip up and we get into these little divots, but in the end, we find a way to come out on top."

Peacock will finish their regular season next Tuesday against Central before the playoffs start in two weeks.

The Falcons will be back on the court on Thursday to host Vanier at 7 p.m.

In the senior boys’ league on Tuesday, the Vanier Vikings improved to 9-0 this season with a four-set win (27-29, 25-17, 25-12, 27-25) over the third place Central Cyclones, who dropped to 5-4 with the loss.

The Falcons beat the Toilers in three straight sets (25-18, 25-22, 25-22). Cornerstone is 5-4 after the win, while Peacock drops to 2-7.

The Avonlea Eagles moved into second place with a three-set win (25-23, 25-23, 25-23) over the Briercrest Christian Academy Cougars. The Eagles are now 6-3, while the Cougars drop to 0-9.
