Some hot shooting in the third quarter helped the Peacock Toilers turn a two-point halftime lead into an eight-point advantage on their way to a hard-fought 70-63 win over the Central Cyclones on Tuesday night.

The win improved the Toilers to 5-0 in the Moose Jaw High School Senior Girls Basketball League this season. The Cyclones dropped to 4-2, both of their losses have come against Peacock.

"Our shots started falling [in the third quarter], we started pushing the ball, we started playing better defence, but we know we could have played better than that," said Peacock guard Piper Ingalls.

Ingalls led the Toilers' attack throughout the night and especially in the third quarter. The senior poured in nine of her 19 points on the night in the third.

"In the first and second, my shots weren't falling but then I started focusing more and started shooting better as a team," said Ingalls.

Peacock grade 11 Anna Maelde also scored 19 points in the win for the Toilers.

The Cyclones gave their rivals all that they could handle throughout the game. Central led early in the third quarter, but couldn't find a way to keep up when Peacock got hot from the floor.

"We played pretty good, we got down in third but just kept fighting until the end," said Central grade 11 Emily Blackmore, who finished with 16 points in the loss.

"We played with a lot of energy and were capitalizing on turnovers."

Cyclones guard Kirstie Johnstone picked up 15 points in the loss.

Peacock will return to the court next Thursday to host the B.C.A. Cougars, while Central hosts the Vanier Spirits next Tuesday.

The Cougars and Spirits met in the other senior girls game on Tuesday with B.C.A. pulling out an 80-61 win at Vanier Collegiate. The Spirits are now 1-4 this season, while the Cougars improve to 3-2.

Four Cougars scored in double digits, led by 19 points from Mya Matthies, while Lilly Matthies scored 16, Brooklyn Martens picked up 14, and Melissa Ellis finished with 12. Vanier’s Jenna Meili scored a game-high 31 points in the loss.

On the boys' side on Tuesday, the Cyclones kept their perfect record intact with a 100-58 win over the Toilers. Central sits at 6-0, while Peacock falls to 2-3.

The Vanier Vikings are 4-1 after they beat the Cougars 91-50. B.C.A. falls to 0-5 with the loss.
