The Moose Jaw Peewee Mavericks hit the ice three times during a busy weekend in the South Saskatchewan Female Hockey League.

After playing just once this month heading into the weekend, the Mavericks hit the ice for three games in three nights and came away with a different result in all three games.

The weekend started with the Mavericks losing 6-5 to the Wood River Ice Cats at the Kinsmen Arena on Friday night. Wood River scored twice in the third period to pick-up the victory.

Jesse Mielke had a hat trick in the loss, while Jasmine Kohl finished with a goal and two points, and Brooklyn Nimegeers had the other Moose Jaw goal.

On Saturday, the Mavericks found the win column for just the third time this season, skating past the Parkland Fire, 7-4, for a big road win.

Nimegeers led the scoring this time for the Mavericks with four goals and six points, while Mielke had two goals and four points. Sadie Hughes picked up a goal and three points.

The two teams met again on Sunday and battled to a 3-3 tie.

Moose Jaw trailed 2-0 going into the third and then 3-1 early in the final frame, but Mielke scored two goals int he final 6:34 to help the Mavericks earn a point.

Ashley Breitkreuz picked up a goal and three points in the draw.

The Mavericks sit at 3-12-5 on the year. They’re back on the ice this weekend for a pair of games, first against the Swift Current Ice Cats on Saturday and then the Southwest Cyclones on Sunday.

In other female hockey action on the weekend, the Midget AA Mavericks also hit the ice for three games over the weekend.

They lost 8-5 to the Estevan Bear Cats on Friday, but answered back with a 6-4 win over the Bear Cats on Saturday.

Moose Jaw hit the road to Weyburn on Sunday and fell 5-3 to the Drillers, which puts their record at 5-15-2 on the year.

The Mavericks are back in action on Tuesday when they head to Wilcox to meet up with the Notre Dame Hounds.

The Bantam A Mavericks pushed their winning streak to five games with a 7-4 win over the Regina Renegades on Sunday afternoon.

Makayla Anderson led the Mavericks with two goals and four points in the win, while Ellie Gauvin and Nikita Halyk also picked up a pair of goals each. Tia Miller had the other marker for Moose Jaw.

The Mavericks will host the Regina Shamrocks on Monday night at the Bert Hunt Arena.

The Moose Jaw Bantam AA Warriors hit the ice here in Moose Jaw for games on Saturday and Sunday this weekend.

On Saturday, the Warriors battled the Melville Millionaires to a tight game, falling 4-2. Evan Osberg and Connor Ruckaber scored in the loss for Moose Jaw, while Jayden Watterson made 53 saves to keep the game close.

In Sunday’s game, the Warriors couldn’t hold off the Weyburn Wings, losing 8-2 at the Red Knight Arena. Osberg scored both goals in the loss for Moose Jaw.

The Warriors continue to look for their first win of the season at 0-26-0 on the year. They return to the ice in Swift Current on Wednesday.

The Moose Jaw Midget AA Warriors came out on the losing end in games on Saturday and Sunday in the South Saskatchewan Minor Hockey League.

The Warriors dropped a 4-3 game in overtime to the Regina Capitals at the Bert Hunt Arena on Saturday. Josh Fitzpatrick scored a pair of third period goals to force overtime. Logan Hauser had the other marker for the Warriors in the loss.

On Sunday, the Warriors returned to the Bert Hunt Arena ice and dropped a 5-2 game to the Notre Dame Argos. Cooper Cole and Josh Fitzpatrick scored power play goals for Moose Jaw in the loss.

The Warriors will be back on the ice next Wednesday to face the Broncos in Swift Current.

In Hockey Regina League action this weekend, the Moose Jaw Bantam A Warriors lost a pair of games, falling 6-1 to the Regina Tigers on Friday and then losing a 12-2 game to the Lumsden Lions on Sunday.

The Midget A Warriors fell 7-1 to the Cupar Cougars on Saturday.

It wasn’t all loses however, as the Peewee A Warriors continued their winning ways with a 5-1 victory against the Prairie Storm Lightning. It was the third straight win for the Warriors, who in first place with a 13-3-3 record.

Marc Belanger had two goals, while Layne Gadd, Nolan Kearns and Aiden MacDonald all scored in the third period of Saturday’s win.
