Josh Johnson and Colton Ebbett had a hat trick each to lead to the Moose Jaw Mustangs to an 8-6 win over the Estevan Voltz on Wednesday night at the Kinsmen Arena.

The win sends the Mustangs into the gold medal game for the South Saskatchewan Lacrosse League's Peewee Division on Friday.

"That felt really good," said Johnson after the win.

While the offence was clicking for the Mustangs to pick up the win, it was the play by the team on the defensive end that was receiving praise after the game.

"This was probably the best that we've played defensively all year, we played really good on offence, there's a few little things that we can fix, but we played good overall," said Johnson.

His head coach concurred, "That really helped us, it gave us some offensive opportunities, but we really limited what they had, so that was a key for us tonight," said Mustangs coach Jeremy Ebbett.

Defence hasn't always been a strength for the Mustangs this season, so Ebbett added that this was a big performance.

"To bring it all together here now is perfect timing and hopefully we can carry it through to Friday night," he said.

The game was low scoring in the early going with Johnson opening the scoring for the Mustangs with 7:17 left in the first period. He followed it up with his second goal just over three minutes later and the Mustangs would lead 2-1 after one.

Moose Jaw's defence locked down in the second period, holding the Voltz off the board and allowing the Mustangs to score four times -- three from Colton Ebbett and another from Johnson -- and build up a 6-1 lead.

The Voltz put the pressure on in the third period, but goals from Cashton Seaborg and Aaron Barnett allowed the Mustangs to seal the win.

Johnson said he's excited to be heading to the final, "We've got to play even better D in that game," he said.

The Mustangs will take on the Swift Current Rampage Gold in the gold medal game on Friday night at the Kinsmen Arena. They hit the floor at 7:45 p.m. to decide the league champion.

The bronze medal game will also be hosted in Moose Jaw with Estevan taking on the Swift Current Rampage Blue.
