The Assiniboia Peewee Rebels just closed out a season to remember.

The Rebels posted a perfect record on their way to capturing the Southwest Saskatchewan Hockey League Championship and the SHA Peewee B Provincial Championship.

"It was definitely something that we didn't expect going into the year but we had a great group of kids, they came to play every day and that's what happens when you show up ready to play," said Rebels head coach Lane Jepson.

The Rebels finished off their season with a 7-3 win over Eastend in SWSHL final on Monday, sweeping the best-of-three series after taking Game 1, 3-0.

That came after the Rebels put together a combined 8-1 win over Kindersley in the two-game total point provincial final series.

"We played every game like it was a big game and that adds up to the perfect season," said Jepson.

The Rebels went 27-0 during the regular season, outscoring the opposition 230-71 and finishing 17 points ahead of Maple Creek and Eastend in second place.

He added that they had different players step up throughout the season, "It was a whole team effort," he said. "Every team has their all-stars on it but they're not all-stars without their line-mates too, so I would chalk it up to a team effort."

Assiniboia's Grier Peterson led the league in scoring with 60 goals and 104 points in 26 games, while teammate Jaxson Eberle was third with 38 goals and 68 points.

The Rebels actually occupied four of the top-five spots in the scoring race with Jaxin Karst finishing with 46 goals and 64 points, and Keaton Hillmer was fifth in the league with 28 goals and 62 points.
