The Prairie Hockey Academy’s Midget Varsity team hit the road for three games over the weekend, dropping all three, including two by one goal, against the Pilot Mound Hockey Academy in Manitoba.

The two sides played a close, overtime thriller in their first game of the weekend with Pilot Mound pulling out a 5-4 win over PHA on Saturday morning.

Keagon Little scored twice in the loss, while Tanner Funk and Lang Lee also found the back of the net for PHA. Josh Warkentin turned away 28 shots in the loss as PHA outshot Pilot Mound, 35-32.

They met again on Saturday night with Pilot Mound skating 6-1 win in a dominating performance.

PHA was outshot 42-17, while Alec Nieman picked up the lone goal in the loss. That goal actually tied the game at 1-1 midway through the second, but Pilot Mound scored five unanswered goals to take the win.

Ryley Gross made 36 saves in the loss.

The two teams suited up again on Sunday morning with Pilot Mound edging PHA 3-2 to end the weekend.

Kolby Kaban scored a power-play goal for PHA late in the second period to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the third, but Pilot Mound scored twice late in the third to take a two-goal advantage.

Noah Wills answered for PHA, but they couldn’t find the equalizer.

Warkentin turned away 24 shots in the loss.

PHA sits 4-3-1 on the year coming out of the weekend. Their next action is coming up on Nov. 17-18 when they host Pilot Mound at the Barkman Arena in Caronport.
