Captain Brayden Point led the charge for Team Canada on Monday as they picked up their first win at the 2016 World Junior Hockey Championship.

Point had three assists, while six different goal scorers found the back of the net in a 6-1 win over Denmark in Helsinki, Finland.

The game started a little rough for Canada as they couldn’t find the back of the net early, while Denmark struck first when Seattle Thunderbirds forward Alexander True deflected puck in off his skate.

Canada responded only 1:03 later when Anthony Beauvillier finished off a nice passing play to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the first intermission.

The Canadians exploded early in the second period with three goals in the first 5:50 of the frame.

John Quennevile buried a rebound in front after a nice passing play by Point and Mitch Marner just 1:14 into the period.  Then Mathew Barzal and Lawson Crouse scored back-to-back just 51 second apart to extend Canada’s lead to 4-1.

Marner would make it a four-goal lead for Canada with 9:30 to go in the second and Dylan Strome scored midway through the third to finish off the offensive outburst for Canada.

Point finished with three assists and one shot on goal in the win.

Mason McDonald wasn’t really tested, being forced to make just ten saves in the win.

Canada now sits at 1-1 and will face-off with Switzerland on Tuesday as the round robin continues.

In other round robin action on Monday, Warriors forward Jiri Smejkal and the Czech Republic won 2-0 over Slovakia; Sweden skated to a 1-0 shutout win over the United States; and Russia topped Finland, 6-4.
