There’s another Captain Canada in the Moose Jaw Warriors’ organization after Brayden Point was named captain of the National Junior Team on Wednesday.

"It's a huge honour," Point told TSN after being named captain.  "There's a lot of good leaders on this team, a lot of guys you could go to, but to be picked is a huge honour and I'm really excited."

Point is one of four returning players with fellow returnees Lawson Crouse and Joe Hicketts being named alternate captains.

"Brayden is a real positive guy, he shows it through his hard work and determination, and he's a great guy and an easy guy to like, so he's a great leader and he's going to do a great job at these World Juniors," said Crouse, who plays with the OHL's Kingston Frontenacs.

Point had a goal and an assist in Canada’s first pre-competition game against Belarus before leaving the game for “pre-cautionary” reasons late in the second period.  The Warriors’ captain hadn’t played since Nov. 17 against the Prince Albert Raiders, when he left the game with a shoulder injury.

Head coach Dave Lowry said Point has shown great determination to get back in the lineup for Canada's opening game.

"We don't have any doubt that he'll be ready for this tournament," said Lowry to TSN.  "He's a guy that has an enormous amount of passion for the game and has a lot of respect for the game.  You like guys that when they aren't fully involved, they come and they work and they go about their business and make sure they do everything they can to be ready."

Point has served as captain of the Warriors for two seasons and has been a part of the team's leadership group since his rookie season.

"Being a good leader is about hard work, trying to lead by example, not being afraid to be vocal in the room, but the biggest thing is that hard work," said Point

In seven games at last year’s World Juniors, Point had two goals and four points as he found a bigger role with Team Canada as the tournament moved on.

Canada went 3-0 during the pre-competition play after beating Sweden 7-6 on Wednesday.  Team Canada will face the United States to kick-off this year’s World Juniors in Helsinki, Finland on Saturday.
